Chris clapped his hands over his ears while the metal frame of the Humvee warped and splintered in the Abomination's powerful grasp, but despite the blatant show of power a hint of something like childish exhilaration filled the space where fear or wariness should have been. He watched as one half of the vehicle was thrown off into the horizon, unable to stop himself from likening it to following the seemingly interminable path of the laser he and Mitch had built what felt sometimes like eons ago.
That thought sobered him some.
He returned his attention to the Abomination immediately when it spoke, taken aback only momentarily. Then he was clambering up the massive body of the beast, using the spikes as leverage until he was settled comfortably aside its back. "Beats walking," he offered with an accompanying grin. "Giddyup?"
